Meet Snoop Lion: How could a film starring Snoop Dogg - one of the most fascinating characters in popular music - be anything less than interesting? I mean, did you not see вЂњMac and Devin Go to High School?вЂќ So put down your copy of вЂњAre You ExperiencedвЂќ - at least temporarily - and cue up вЂњPeople, Hell & Angels.вЂќ I doubt you will be disappointed. Listen to that cut, and itвЂ™s easy to understand why Hendrix would later enlist those men in his post-Experience outfit, Band of Gypsys. One of the true highlights is the Hendrix original вЂњHear My Train a CominвЂ™,вЂќ which was taken from HendrixвЂ™s first studio date with bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles. The 12 tracks hail from a wide variety of recording sessions, from 1968 to 1970. ItвЂ™s not the juggernaut Jimi Hendrix Experience sound - which was delivered by one of the best trios the rock world has ever known - but itвЂ™s just as fascinating. The tunes incorporate a wide range of sounds, styles and instruments - from horns and keyboards to percussion and (gasp!) a second guitar. Plus, these songs provide a good window into the direction Hendrix was headed with his music. HendrixвЂ™s guitar work, of course, is nothing short of epic here.
